to boost exports.
Cairo- Oct 31, 2022
Minister of Trade and Industry Ahmed
Samir has met with British ambassador in Cairo Gareth Bayley to explore means
of fostering bilateral economic cooperation between the two countries.
“Egypt is keen on consolidating its
strategic partnership with Britain, in a way that would make a quantum leap in
bilateral trade and investments, hence, benefit their economies,” Samir said, highlighting
the solid, long-standing ties binding both nations, which culminated in the
signing of the Association Agreement in 2020.
The meeting covered boosting UK
investments in the local market, mainly in renewable energy, green economy,
infrastructure, healthcare and mining industries; as well as financing mechanisms
offered by various funding institutions, such as the British International
Investment and UK Export Finance.
The ministry, Samir stressed, is committed
to offering all support to current and potential UK investors, while addressing
challenges facing companies operating in the market.
According to official figures, Egypt-UK
trade is rising constantly. It hit $2.917 billion in 2021, up 35% from a year
earlier.
