Minister of Trade and Industry
Ahmed Samir have met with Minister of Environment Yasmine Fouad to explore issues
of common concern, as well as the latest preparations for the upcoming COP27 to
be held in Sharm el-Sheikh in November.
Fouad, who meets Samir for the
first time since taking office, lauded the fruitful cooperation between the two
ministries over the last years, especially related to streamlining procedures for
licensing and fulfilling environmental requirements in industrial facilities.
The meeting discussed the Egyptian Pollution
Abatement Project (EPAP) III easing pollution loads generated by Egyptian
industries and providing soft loans to eco-friendly industrial projects at a 3.5%
interest rate, in addition to the national strategy to reduce single-use
plastic bags.
“We are keen on deepening
cooperation with the Ministry of Environment to achieve compatibility between
MTI’s plans for inclusive and sustainable development, and the environmental
standards required in factories,” Samir said, for his part.
He added that Egypt’s hosting of the
next climate conference is a good opportunity to demonstrate the state’s green
transition efforts in its production and service sectors, highlighting the key
role played by the local industry and private sector in this summit.
