Minister of Trade and Industry
Nevine Gamea has taken part in a seminar organized by the Egyptian Industrialist
Association (EIA) and the Chemical Industries Export Council to discuss the
challenges facing the industry and export sectors in Egypt.
A host of heads of manufacturing
companies attended the event, as well as officials from the ministry and its
Medium, Small and Micro Enterprise Development Agency.
“The government diligently seeks to
create an investment-conducive climate and find effective solutions to all the
challenges facing the business community,” Gamea said in her speech.
The ministry, she added, has prepared
a list of 83 investment opportunities to manufacture certain products locally
instead of importing them, noting that the Industrial Modernization Center has already
identified 131 imported goods for that reason, hence reducing the import bill.
She pointed out that the political
leadership attaches great importance to setting up more specialized industrial
complexes, referring to the establishment of 17 industrial parks in 15
governorates across the country, at a total investment cost of EGP10 billion.
In a bid to address land hoarding,
a high-level committee was formed to conduct a comprehensive survey of unused industrial
lands in all governorates to make better use of them, Gamea further noted.
