Minister
of Trade and Industry Nevine Gamea has met with a delegation from Mercedes-Benz
Egypt, led by President and CEO Gerd Bitterlich, where they discussed the
company’s current and future projects in the local market, and most notably its
plans to localize electric vehicle (EV) manufacturing in Egypt.
“The
ministry is committed to encouraging foreign investments to expand their
operations here, especially amid the country’s business-friendly climate,”
Gamea said, stressing the government’s efforts to eliminate obstacles hindering
investors.
The political
leadership, she added, gives top priority to stimulating and deepening the automotive
industry, with the aim of rendering Egypt a major car-making hub in the MENA
region.
Bitterlich,
for his part, noted that Mercedes sees Egypt as a promising market in the
region, adding that it has grown significantly in the domestic market over the
past years with five official dealers and some 12 sale and after-sale service
centers.
