Abu Dhabi- May 29, 2022
Egypt, the United Arab Emirates and
Jordan have launched an integrated “Industrial Partnership for Sustainable Economic
Development” in Abu Dhabi, to boost economic growth across five key sectors: food
and agriculture, fertilizers, pharmaceuticals, textiles, minerals and
petrochemicals.
The partnership was signed by Egypt's
Minister of Trade and Industry Nevine Gamea, UAE Minister of Industry and
Advanced Technology Sultan al-Jaber, and Jordanian Minister of Industry, Trade and
Supply Yousef al-Shamali; in the presence of Egyptian and Jordanian prime
ministers and Emirati deputy prime minister.
“The initiative aims to enhance
food and drug security and achieve integration in various industrial sectors
and supply chains,” Gamea said to media following the inking ceremony.
The move, she added, would help
develop joint industries to be more capable of competing on regional and international
markets, and secure food supplies in the three countries; capitalizing on their
available green energy sources and creating circular economies within global
climate commitments.
As per the agreement, a supreme
tripartite committee will be formed under the chairmanship of the three nations’
industry ministers, as well as an executive committee including representatives
of the ministries concerned, to work with the private sector on achieving the
goals of the agreement.
