Minister of Trade and Industry
Ahmed Samir has explored with Christian Berger, EU ambassador to Egypt, means
of boosting economic cooperation during the coming period under the EU-Egypt
Association Agreement, in force since 2004.
The meeting explored the country’s efforts
to stimulate the economy and create a business-friendly climate especially in
light of current global challenges, as well as available opportunities for
mutual cooperation.
“Egypt and the EU have shared long-lasting
ties of fruitful cooperation both at the government and business levels, EU
being the country’s biggest economic partner,” Samir said.
The two sides agreed on deeper
communication to encourage European companies to inject fresh investments in
the local market, while benefiting from the incentive packages offered by the
government. Organizing a joint business forum in Egypt was also discussed, in
cooperation with the ministry.
He added that Egypt seeks to boost
cooperation with the EU in the auto industry and become a manufacturing and export
hub for the 27-member bloc’s goods into Africa through the African Continental
Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
