Minister of Trade and Industry Nevine Gamea has issued a decree
allowing the clearance only of unused electric passenger cars imported during
the model year, as is the case with traditional ones.
It also stipulated the cancellation of Ministerial Decree No.
255 of 2018 issued in this regard, which permitted the import of used electric
passenger vehicles up to 3 years after the date of manufacture.
“The decision comes within the state’s efforts to deepen local
EV industry, especially as the whole world is shifting away from fossil fuels,”
Gamea said.
