Environment-friendly industrial
complexes are an effective tool to overcome challenges related to inclusive and
sustainable industrial development.
Cairo- Jan 18, 2022
Minister of Trade and Industry Nevine
Gamea and Regional Director of the United Nations Industrial Development
Organization “UNIDO” in Cairo Basil al-Khatib have signed a project document
for the development of eco-industrial parks in Egypt within the Global
Eco-Industrial Parks Programme (GEIPP) in Developing and Transition Countries, funded
by the Swiss government and implemented by the UNIDO.
The signing ceremony was attended
by Yvonne Baumann, the Swiss ambassador in Cairo, and Ahmed Rizk, the UNIDO deputy
regional director in Cairo.
“Environment-friendly industrial
complexes are an effective tool to overcome challenges related to inclusive and
sustainable industrial development,” Gamea said.
She added that they contribute to
attracting more local and foreign industrial investments, which, in turn, create
job opportunities and increase income, while preserving the environment. They
also facilitate the transition towards green industry and a circular economy by
reducing greenhouse gases resulting from manufacturing, in addition to the optimal
use of resources.
